Pain and Meditation - My Story

For 26 years I lived with on and off pain and a body that refused to cooperate.

The mind-body connection had never entered my mind.

Every day I woke with uncertainty... 

"Will today be pain free or a day of torture?"

But then I discovered a super power…

Here’s how the mind-body connection helped me to manage the pain in my foot, hips, back, and neck.

It’s not a miracle cure. I still get some pain from time to time. But this has massively changed my ability to deal with pain.

So, here we go…

During university I really struggled with my body.

I was working, studying, and it just felt like I was getting old too soon.

My body felt jarred, compressed, beaten and bruised.

At the end of each day I collapsed and I couldn’t move.

Every morning when I tried to get out of bed, my body was stiff. My hips were like a rusty gate that didn’t want to move.

Something had to give...

I thought I could cope with any struggle...

Despite five surgeries, living with "background" pain, and a few extra precautions, I had never met a physical challenge couldn’t handle.

But this was different.

My body felt broken, and my spirit was rapidly being crushed. It was as if fate had beaten me. It was like a razor wire fence blocking my life potential.

But it also gave me the motivation to search for solutions.

Enter relaxation and pain release...

One day I was lying on my bedroom floor paralyzed with pain.

More than that, I was frustrated at my new-found limitation.

I put my headphones on and pressed play on a meditation audio I was using at the time...

And something crazy happened.

I just started imagining my muscles unwrapping from my bones.

I began at my feet and worked my way through each toe, then up my legs to my hips, mentally seeing each muscle unwrap from the bone and expand like a balloon...

Expanding on the inhale, and relaxing on the exhale.

I did this for the entire 30 minute audio track, and then pressed play again and kept going. Muscle by muscle, from my toes to my hips to my tailbone to the bottom of my spine... all the way up to my head and back down to the fingertips.

It was like nothing I've experienced before...

My body felt light and free.

The pain that had kept me awake night after night, was dissolving...

In fact, I fell into a deep sleep at 7pm that night!

But what happened next is the part that showed I was on to something big.

The next morning, as I lay in bed and stretched my arms above my head... I heard a symphony of cracks in my shoulders and right down my spine.

I got out of bed and, as I stood up, my body cracked even more.

It felt amazing...

My body felt warm and alive….

My hips were like a brand new gate that had just been oiled.

For the first time in my memory I could move without pain!

I actually thought I was dreaming.

The really mind blowing thing was that this technique I did with my mind, had changed my body...

The excruciating pain and discomfort that was ruining my life... it wasn't there anymore!

So as you can imagine, this became my daily ritual.

I went to work full of energy, I worked harder than ever, returned home as fast as I could, and did my muscle release.

And I even had the energy to go out and enjoy my holiday nights with friends… after 9 hour days of hard work!

And the rest is history!
